RS MFL combines proven MFL principles with high-resolution sensing and integrated location mapping to deliver a more complete picture of pipeline condition.
The tool is currently available in an axial configuration for 6″–14″ pipelines, with 16″–30″ sizes in development.
Strong magnets establish a magnetic field in the pipe wall. Where corrosion or other metal loss reduces the wall thickness, some of that magnetic field escapes from the steel. RS MFL’s tri-axial sensors detect these magnetic flux leakage signals in three directions, helping distinguish and characterize even small metal loss features.
Combined with high-resolution data analysis and XYZ mapping, this technology provides detailed information about the size and location of detected features.
Pipeline geometry and operating conditions can make in-line inspections challenging. RS MFL is designed to handle demanding conditions while delivering reliable inspection data.
Detecting Metal Loss Even in Heavily Corroded Pipe. During a pull test through a corroded pipe spool, RS MFL clearly identified every drilled pinhole as a distinct signal, despite heavy surrounding rust. This test demonstrates the tool’s ability to detect localized metal loss features in challenging pipe conditions and highlights the value of high-resolution sensing when evaluating pipeline integrity.
